Dr. Joe Wright has accepted the call to serve as the Executive Director of the Bivocational and Small Church Leadership Network. He will begin serving in this capacity on May 7, 2018. Joe comes to this ministry following eighteen years of service as the Director of Missions of the Dyer Baptist Association in Dyersburg, TN. He served as the pastor of four churches prior to his associational ministry. Joe has earned one doctoral degree in addition to a Master of Divinity degree. His training and ministry experience have prepared him in a unique way to perform the multi-faceted tasks that our Executive Director’s role demands. You will soon grow to appreciate Joe’s heart for the Lord and His servants.
Joe and his wife Pennie have recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. They married following each having experienced the loss of their spouse. Pennie had been married to a bivocational pastor, so both bring years of ministry involvement to this new challenge. In their new, blended family, they have two sons, three daughters, ten grandchildren and one on the way. God has blessed them richly and taught them through the joys and sufferings of life to have a deep sympathy for and commitment to God’s pastors and their wives.
Joe is familiar with the BSCLN. He participated with our Coordinating Council in the past. He has also written our Leadership Series booklet entitled Strengthening Your Association. This booklet addresses ways in which associations can better serve their smaller churches.
This is a great opportunity for all who love the BSCLN to commit ourselves anew to prayer for our new Executive Director and all who will work with him to engage, enrich and equip pastors across our nation. It is also a great time to renew our giving to the BSCLN and to enlist others to do the same.
It has been a joy to serve as the Interim Executive Director for the BSCLN for the past twenty-two months. I have great confidence that the Lord has led us to His man for the days that lay ahead. Jane and I will be moving to Huntsville, AL and will be seeking the Lord’s leadership in pastoral or associational ministry. Please pray for the Lord’s guidance in our lives as we enter into a new sphere of service. Thanks for all that each of you have done to minister to bivocational and single staff pastors in partnership with the BSCLN throughout the years. May the Lord continue to bless your service in His Kingdom.
